Th Slovak-Hungarian international Partnership was born on a remarkable day, the 20th of Dec, 2007, during the night of the Schengen border opening. We have signed our treaty in extremely cold weather outside, but with warmth inside our hearts with sixteen municipalities and VITEA Fund with public utility.

One task of the Partnership is to promote all Partnership works, developments and events that attract great crowds. We would like to appeal inquirers, children, young people and older ones from the cities who are interested in the habits and clothes of old times, stories of famous people.  With this website our plan is to make people become more curious about this beautiful territory, Abaúj.

This territory has a great past, many historical events and stories are connected to this sight. Such sights are the Boldogkő and Regéci castles that can be related to famous names, such as Rákóczi and other historic characters.

Hejce has been the spot of a military plane tragedy a few years ago.

Otherwise, this village is a gem of this territory, as all the bridges and stone fences, the tunnels under the village make people suspect what interesting events took place in here and what an important role it had in the past. I could also mention Fony, which can compete with any village in the Alps, or the hidden villages that are waiting for people seeking a relaxed atmosphere, like Arka and Mogyoróska.

In the territory we can find memories of great religious people, such as the first Hungarian Bible in Vizsoly, the castle and chapel of Bishop Eszterházy, all the churches that were built during the state foundation and the middle ages for example in Hernádcéce and Korlát, and we can also find the stone-see rocks of Doberdo in Bodrogkőújfalu.

The name, Upper-Hungary or in Hungarian, “Felvidék” should be introduced to Hungarians, as many are not familiar with what territory it means exactly. Many interesting places exist at the other side of the border, too, we just have to get to know those.

The events, stories and tales that were created during our common Hungarian history is part of Hungarians, and so are historic characters who used to live in this area. In the border region, we can find many villages that used to be Hungarian before the Treaty of Trianon. The beautiful little village, Debrőd is always ready to have guests who want to relax, enjoy the silence and the calm atmosphere. We can find similar conditions in the 10-hectar area of the Perény lake, where we can also try some unusual fish dishes and excellent local wines.

Not far from the lake is Alsólánc, where we can take a look at the castle and chapel of Lánczy family.

We know that the renovation of these villages should be done continuously, but it is impossible as state funds are shortened every year.

This is why we are starting the movement “ For Abaúj not only for people in Abaúj” which is going to make a base so smaller developments can be implemented in the area. The newly registered European international Grouping, Abaúj Abaújban EGTC that is made up of already cooperating Partnership settlements, will be capable of receiving funds.

Your inquiry, your visit to the territory and staying there, using the services the area offers, are all contributing to the development of these villages. Many different videos were made about some parts of the territory that can be bought and that can be used as education material at different trainings and even in schools. A video about all our settlements is in making progress. We would like to start a living history class which aims to teach children in kindergarten or primary schools in an enjoyable way. The two little touristic trains will mean a lot of help in this.

Knowing or interesting and colorful history can be a part of the patriotism of children, which is inevitable to form the identity of the young generation. This can also lead to the development of not only the territory, but also our home country.

Our Partnership would like to satisfy all the needs of a group (students on a field trip, or meeting of friends) by organizing different trips or tourist guiding.

We can make time spent in the area become longer due to the rising number of events and trip possibilities. With a growing number of attractions, the number of guest nights will also be higher, which is connected to the growth is sales of locally produced bio products.

As a summary, the Partnership members would like to reach to a state, where all the events – sports or cultural- appear as part of a whole and not only as separate pieces.

So our visitors can choose from many opportunities, and they can even start their searches about the area from home, online. So the guest will not only stay for one event, but longer with family or friends and get to know one of the most beautiful areas of our country.

So they would like to come back, recommend this place to their friends who would also like to explore the territory and relax in our villages either in Hungary, or in Upper Hungary, as Kassa.

Our ancestors are addressing us through the words of count István Széchenyi:

“Dare to be great, You who were invited and born for something better, who can be lords of a nicer future”

In the following section we will introduce the settlements of Abaúj Abaújban Partnership, its sights and the developments that have been handed over at the Handover ceremony.

Our common development is that we have located 1-1 Pertnership boards in all Partnership settlements which gives the directions within the settlements and information about the sights.

All Partnership settlement have 1 board each about the Partnership members also with maps.  A common website as also created for visitors from further places, so they can get to know more about the beauty of the territory and they can also visit the independent website of the settlements. Many of our settlement will get brown touristic boards, altogether 24 of them which will be placed next to roads with heavy traffic.

The program, timing and location of the second Abaúj- Abaújban Summer Festival can be found on the website. This series of events will be appearing on posters and leaflets and we hope it will reach a great amount of people.
